Primary Teaching Assistant

Job Title: Primary Teaching Assistant
Salary: JG5 scalepoint 22-26 £21,074 - £23,866
Hours: 35 hours per week, term time only plus 5 INSET days
Actual Salary: £17,281 - £19,570
Contract: Permanent

This is an exciting opportunity to work within the Voyage Learning Campus – Alternative Provision (Pupil Referral Unit and Tuition Service). The Voyage Learning Campus has three separate sites, Nailsea, Milton and Weston super Mare and provides alternative education provision for up to 129 learners. The Voyage Learning Campus is a successful Pupil Referral Unit and was recognised to be a 'good' school with many 'outstanding' features following our most recent Ofsted inspection in January 2017.

We are seeking to appoint a suitably experienced teaching assistant to work on our Primary site in Milton. The successful applicant should have experience of effectively supporting students in a Primary setting and should have a proven track record of supporting young people with challenging behaviour and emotional needs.

Applicants should hold an NVQ level 2/3 Certificate for Teacher/Classroom Assistant or NVQ Early Years Care and Education at level 2/3 or an equivalent qualification.

It is important that the applicants have good interpersonal skills and are able to communicate appropriately with students, parents and carers with a variety of backgrounds, needs and abilities.

The post holder will work within a team committed to providing alternative education for specific students in our Primary setting who are severely disaffected from school and who are at risk of being or have been permanently excluded. Therefore candidates should be flexible and be able to work both as a team and independently.

We are seeking to appoint a Campus Student & Family Liaison Officer to support students and their families to enable them to reach their full potential and to have a positive impact on the attendance of individual Campus students.

The successful candidate should have experience of working within an educational setting and the post would particularly suit a person with an educational welfare background.

We are looking for a suitably experienced person with:

  • 5 x GCSEs or equivalent including English and Mathematics to at least GCSE grade C level
  • LDSS Level 3 or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of Child Protection
  • Experience of working with parents/carers and child development.
  • Experience of working with children within an education
  • Training/experience of counselling skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with both adults and children
  • Competent use of ICT applications
  • Driving licence and own vehicle or ability to travel across the region
  • Experience of carrying out home visits
