Welcome Back to Term 5

Welcome Back to Term 5

Welcome back to Term 5 – it’s very strange to not be welcoming students in person.  Whilst we have opened our Milton site for students with parents who are keyworkers or for those with an EHCP or a social worker, it is very quiet.  We miss the chatter  of the young people we work with and want them to know that we are thinking of them.  Phone calls and contact home will continue now after the recent Easter break, to keep in touch with you and your child.

For many of us, it will be a difficult time at the moment.  Many of you talk to us about your worries for your children who are missing friends and family, or struggling to complete work at home.  Whatever learning you can make happen at home, we thank you. The most important thing you can do is help your child get into a daily routine – little and often will be the best approach so that when we do return, students are ready and able to learn.  Our teachers and support staff will work hard, using their skills and expertise to help students catch up when we are back in school.  Keeping children happy and safe will be your priority at the moment, and we hope our resources will help you do that.

Our website has a range of Home Learning resources to help you and we update our Facebook page every day with different ideas or activities.  If you are not following us already, please go on and like us – we’ve had lots of positive feedback about the links we have posted.  Additionally, the BBC bitesize website has also been updated and there are daily lessons online and on BBC iPlayer.  We recommend having a look at these as well.

Finally, just a short message from Ms Howells, our Business Manager, about Free School Meals.

Vouchers to cover free school meals will continue to be sent home in the post over the coming weeks. The voucher is to the value of £15 per week per pupil and we have selected Tesco as the chosen provider. Voucher codes can only be used in store and will expire after 1 month. There is some delay in between ordering the vouchers and the issue of the voucher so we would encourage vouchers to be spent in store as soon as possible. If you have other children attending different schools, their process may be different and we would advise you to check with those schools for their arrangements.

Please let us know if you would prefer an alternative supermarket to be chosen on your behalf. Further information can be found at the following link; https://www.edenred.co.uk/reward-recipients/Free-School-Meal-Vouchers/

Free School Meal data is provided to the school by the local authority on a weekly basis. We are unable to issue vouchers to families who have not applied directly to the local authority for free school meals. We would encourage you to apply and keep a copy of your eligibility letter as this may be required to enable vouchers to be sent to you. Further information on applying for free school meals is available https://www.n-somerset.gov.uk/my-services/schools-learning/local-schools/schoolmeals/freeschoolmeals/.

Thank you for those who have emailed or called with thanks for the staff during this time.  I am incredibly proud of our team and we continue to be here for you.  You can talk to staff when calls home are made, message us on Facebook or contact the closure@voyagelearningcampus.org.uk email.
