Nursing Home Visit
We had a visit from The Samaritans who talked about elderly people being lonely, and how the Samaritans receive a lot of calls because of this. One of our students suggested visiting a retirement home and visiting the elderly who perhaps don't have any family. We made contact with Summer Lane Care Home, who were more than happy for us to visit. The morning was very successful, the students talked to them about themselves and the residents talked to them about things they had experienced in their lives. one lady was 103 and her brother 105 who still visits her from Birmingham. The home was so pleased with the visit we are going to make it a regular occurrence and help out with the residents when they go on trips.
It was lovely chatting to my friend's nan.
I'm glad I made someone's morning happy.
One man made me laugh taking his false teeth in and out!
I loved hearing the poem from the lady who was 103 years old. She lost her dad in the First World War when she was only one and wrote the poem when she visited his grave.
