Making a Referral for a Pupil Referral Unit placement (Behaviour)
If a school has exhausted all avenues available to support a student with challenging behaviour and the student is in danger of permanent exclusion it may be appropriate for the school to make a referral for a Pupil Referral placement.
A North Somerset Council Education Inclusion Service referral form should be completed by the referring school (the form and guidance notes for completing it are available at the bottom of the page). The form, together with the information requested in the form, should be returned to the email address at the bottom of the page. Forms must be signed by the person with parental responsibility for the student.
The North Somerset Out of School Panel meets fortnightly on a Tuesday (term-time only) to discuss referrals and make decisions on placement.
Once we have received the referral form, our School Operations Manager will write to the referring school highlighting the exact cost of the placement with us, dependant on the individual child’s need (refer to Top Up Funding guidance, North Somerset Council). Once a referral has been accepted the Campus will involve the referring school in every stage of the admission process.
Making a Referral for Medical Tuition
Students are referred to our Tuition Service if they are suffering with ill health or anxiety, which precludes the child attending school for less than 10 hours per week.
The North Somerset Council Education Inclusion Service is responsible for the commissioning of medical tuition from the Campus and schools should complete the referral form below, attaching all the information the form requests. The form must be accompanied by a referral letter from a Senior Medical Practioner with the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), Senior Education Psychologist, Community Paediatrician or a medical professional at consultant level. It is important that the referring letter states the length of time tuition is required and a recommendation of the amount of hours the student would be capable of accessing each week.
Completed forms should be returned to the VLS at the email address below who will commission provision from Voyage Learning Campus if appropriate.
The referral form can be downloaded from the bottom of this page alongside an example referral form and guidance notes for completing it. Completed forms should then be sent to the following email address:-
Any queries relating to the form and the submission of the form should be directed to the Education Inclusion Service on 01275 888416.
